My little cousin got married yesterday! She was just eight years old when I met her and now she’s a beautiful wife to a sweet husband. I was so excited when her Daddy asked me to shoot her ceremony and we started talking about her vision for her day. I can only describe Jurnee as a nerdy, hippy cinephile, and I knew I’d love what she put together.
The morning began with bride and groom getting ready in the comfort of Great Grandmother Rosie’s family home. In the quiet morning hours, coffee was brewed, close family gathered, and Jurnee appropriately began one of the biggest days of her life in the rooms where our family’s legacy has unfolded for decades.
She had visions of a simple wedding in a city she loves, draped in vintage style and channeling Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. This young bride and groom aimed for a wedding that would be timeless and sophisticated. Her choice of San Francisco City Hall thrilled me as I just love shooting weddings there. The architecture and history of that place is awe inspiring. The light that floods in from the huge windows makes the building feel like a palace. It’s a great place for a life-long love story to begin.
We took full advantage of the space and grandeur as we snuck off so the couple could savor some alone time while they awaited their turn at the alter. These two are so obviously in love, and so very adorable together. Being family, I was especially swept up in the emotion as I captured my little-cousin-turned-bride.
The time had come for these two to say their vows. They had made fast friends with the officiant as they filled out their paperwork and were all smiles and joy as she led them through the transition from two, to one.
Today Jurnee’s mother and father, as they say, “gave away” their only child, but they also gained a son. Our families celebrated this young bride and groom and made our way to a lovely restaurant for toasts and cupcakes.
I can relate to young love like this. My husband and I were nineteen and twenty when we met, and here we are, ten years later. I wish these two the best of luck in life and marriage, and I’m so happy to be able to capture these moments, these memories, for my family. Congratulations Jurnee and Derek.
